Coconut Chai Latte

This drink blends concentrated chai tea with coconut milk and a small amount of vanilla for a hot, lightly sweet latte. The tea is brewed strong so it stays flavorful after the coconut milk is added, and the finished drink is smooth rather than heavy.

Coconut Chai Latte

Cook time: 10 minutes

Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 240 ml water for brewing the tea
  • 2 count chai tea bags for brewing
  • 360 ml coconut milk well-shaken if canned
  • 15 ml maple syrup
  • 5 ml vanilla extract
  • 0.5 g fine salt
  • 1 g ground cinnamon for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring 240 ml water just to a boil, remove from heat, add the 2 chai tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes for a strong brew. Remove the tea bags and press them gently against the side of the pan before discarding. The tea is dark, fragrant, and tastes concentrated rather than thin.
  2. Set the saucepan over low heat and add 360 ml coconut milk, 15 ml maple syrup, 5 ml vanilla extract, and 0.5 g fine salt. Whisk gently until steaming hot; do not let it boil. The mixture is steaming and uniformly blended, with no visible separation.
  3. Pour the brewed chai into the coconut milk mixture and whisk to combine. Heat for 1 minute more over low heat, just until hot throughout. The latte is fully hot and lightly foamy at the top.
  4. Divide between 2 mugs. Sprinkle each mug with a small pinch of the optional ground cinnamon if using, and serve immediately. Each mug is filled with a smooth, steaming latte.
