Warm Spiced Apple Cider with Cloves

Cook time: 15 minutes

Servings: 8

Ingredients

  • 1920 ml apple cider unfiltered or regular
  • 2 stick cinnamon sticks whole
  • 8 clove whole cloves whole
  • 6 berry whole allspice berries whole
  • 1 fruit orange washed and sliced into rounds
  • 30 ml maple syrup optional, for sweetness adjustment

Instructions

  1. Combine the apple cider, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice berries, and orange slices in a large saucepan. The pot is full and the spices and citrus are submerged.
  2. Set over medium heat and bring just to a gentle simmer, then reduce to low and keep the cider steaming hot without boiling for 10 minutes. Stir in the maple syrup if you want a sweeter finish. The cider is fragrant, hot, and lightly infused; steam rises steadily but it is not at a rolling boil.
  3. Strain out the spices and orange slices, or ladle directly from the pot if you prefer a more rustic presentation. Serve hot in mugs. The drink is clear enough to pour cleanly and tastes warm, spiced, and citrusy.
