Baked Cinnamon Apple Butter French Toast
Fall mornings are made for this cozy French toast. Stuffed with apple butter and cinnamon sugar, then baked until caramelized and dolloped with salted maple cream. Absolutely delicious.

Ingredients
- 1 loaf challah bread
- 1 cup apple butter
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 6 tablespoons salted butter
- 2 honeycrisp apples
- 0.5 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 0.5 cup maple syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 tablespoons bourbon (or vanilla)
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 pinch sea salt
Instructions
- Slice the challah bread into 1 1/2 inch thick slices.
- Spread the apple butter on the sliced challah bread.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the melted and browned salted butter into the egg mixture.
- Add the thinly sliced honeycrisp apples to the mixture.
- Mix in the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Pour the mixture over the bread and bake until caramelized.
- While the toast is baking, prepare the maple whipped cream. Combine the maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, and bourbon (or vanilla) in a saucepan and simmer.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then slowly pour in the simmered syrup mixture while continuing to whip.
- Add sea salt to the whipped cream to taste.
- Serve the baked French toast with a dollop of the salted maple whipped cream.
