  • 16 ounces dried green split peas rinsed
  • 2 cups cooked ham diced
  • 1 whole white onion large, diced
  • 1 cup carrots diced
  • 2 tablespoons garlic minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried sage
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 whole bay leaf
  • 32 ounces low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Add the split peas, ham if using, onion, carrots, garlic, sage, thyme, bay leaf, chicken broth, and water to a slow cooker. All ingredients are in the slow cooker.
  2. Cover and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, until the peas are tender. The peas are tender.
  3. If the soup is too thick, stir in a little more water or broth to loosen it, then serve. Soup reaches the desired consistency and is served.
