Fall Conchas

Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3.75 cups bread flour
- 0.75 cup sugar
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 stick butter
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 150 grams vegetable shortening
- 150 grams all purpose flour
- 150 grams powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla
- 1 as needed gel food coloring
- 1 as needed melted butter
Instructions
- Prepare the yeast mixture by combining warm whole milk, instant yeast, and sugar. Cover and allow to activate for 10-20 minutes.
- Combine the dry ingredients: bread flour, sugar, eggs, cinnamon, softened butter, and vanilla.
- Pour the activated yeast into the dry ingredients. Add the eggs one by one, followed by the vanilla and butter. Mix for 8-10 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to a buttered bowl, cover, and allow the dough to double in size for 1-2 hours.
- Prepare the sugar paste by combining vegetable shortening, all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
- Add gel food coloring little by little to the sugar paste until you reach your desired color.
- Shape the conchas and brush them with melted butter to ensure the paste sticks.
- Cover the conchas with plastic wrap and allow them to rise for an additional 30-40 minutes.
- Bake the conchas at 350F for 20-25 minutes.
