Maple Pecan Old Fashioned

Cook time: 5 minutes

Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 15 g pecans toasted, lightly crushed for garnish
  • 120 ml bourbon for the cocktail
  • 30 ml maple syrup for the cocktail
  • 8 ml Angostura bitters for the cocktail
  • 200 g ice for stirring and serving
  • 100 g ice for stirring and serving
  • 2 piece orange peel wide strips for garnish

Instructions

  1. Toast the pecans in a small skillet over medium heat, stirring often, until fragrant and a shade darker, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a plate to cool, then lightly crush them. Pecans smell nutty and are lightly browned without scorching.
  2. Add the bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters to a mixing glass. Fill the mixing glass with the ice and stir for about 20 seconds to chill and slightly dilute the drink. The outside of the glass feels cold and the liquid looks well chilled.
  3. Strain the cocktail evenly into 2 rocks glasses over the remaining ice. Each glass is filled with a chilled amber cocktail and fresh ice.
  4. Twist the orange peel over each drink to express oils, then add the peel to the glass. Finish each glass with some of the toasted pecans. Orange aroma is visible from the peel and the pecans are settled on top or beside the glass.
