Maple Bourbon Glazed Ham
A succulent ham with flavors of maple and bourbon, balanced with brown sugar and spicy hints, perfect for festive occasions.
Cook time: 120 minutes
Servings: 10
Ingredients
- 7 lbs bone-in ham pre-cooked and spiral cut
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 0.33 cup bourbon or apple juice for non-alcoholic
- 0.5 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 0.5 tsp ground cloves
- 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper optional, for a kick
- 0 rosemary fresh, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set to 325°F (165°C). Place the ham cut-side down in a large roasting pan lined with foil for easy cleanup.
- Create the Glaze: In a small saucepan, combine maple syrup, bourbon, brown sugar, mustard, cinnamon, cloves, and cayenne (if using). Simmer over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring until thickened slightly.
- Score the Ham: Using a sharp knife, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, about 1/4 inch deep. This helps the glaze seep into the meat.
- First Glaze: Brush half the glaze generously over the ham, making sure it gets into the cuts. Cover the ham loosely with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Second Glaze: Remove the foil, brush the ham with more glaze, and bake uncovered for another 30-45 minutes, basting every 15 minutes.
- Carve and Serve: Let the ham rest for 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with rosemary sprigs for an earthy aroma.
