Homemade Holiday Eggnog

Cook time: 30 minutes

Servings: 16

Ingredients

  • 12 egg yolks
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 4 cups milk
  • 4 cups heavy cream
  • 1.25 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon fresh nutmeg
  • 1 pinch ground clove
  • 1 pinch ground allspice

Instructions

  1. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale and silky.
  2. Warm the milk and heavy cream in a pot until steamy but not boiling.
  3. Slowly temper your hot milk into the egg mixture so it stays smooth.
  4. Pour everything back into the pot and cook on low heat, stirring nonstop until it thickens into glossy eggnog.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice.
  6. Chill it completely. It gets thicker as it cools, and the flavor gets deeper.
  7. Serve over ice with fresh nutmeg grated on top or hit it with your bourbon of choice if you’re feeling festive.
