Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0 salt
  • 0 black pepper
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 medium carrot grated
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon allspice ground
  • 1 cup peas frozen
  • 2 pounds potatoes
  • 0.5 cup butter melted
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 0.5 cup pecorino romano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 0.25 cup pecorino romano
  • 0 black pepper

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in a pan over medium heat. Season with salt and pepper and break it into small pieces.
  2. Add chopped onions, grated carrots, and minced garlic to the pan. Cook until onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in tomato paste, flour, soy sauce, ketchup, and white vinegar. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Pour in water, add rosemary, thyme, and allspice. Simmer covered on medium heat for 10 minutes.
  5. Add frozen peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Boil potatoes until knife-tender. Drain and mash them until smooth.
  7. Incorporate melted butter, heavy cream, pecorino romano, dried parsley, garlic powder, and egg yolks into mashed potatoes. Whip until smooth.
  8. Assemble in a baking dish by layering the beef mixture on the bottom and piping or spreading the mashed potatoes on top. Use a fork to create pattern edges.
  9. Top with additional pecorino romano and black pepper to taste. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 20 minutes.
