One-Pan Greek Pastisio–Inspired Pasta
A simplified, one-pan version of Greek pastitsio featuring creamy and tangy whipped feta, spiced with cinnamon and red pepper.

Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 piece small onion
- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 to taste kosher salt
- 1 to taste freshly cracked black pepper
- 2 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 cloves garlic
- 14 ounce whole crushed tomatoes
- 0.25 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 piece bay leaf
- 1 pound shellbows pasta
- 4.5 cups chicken or beef broth
- 8 ounce Athenos Whipped Feta
- 1 cup crumbled Athenos feta
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon flat-leaf parsley
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the finely diced onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add the ground beef or lamb to the pan and season with kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Cook until browned.
- Stir in the tomato paste, red pepper flakes, ground cinnamon, and minced garlic. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the whole crushed tomatoes, nutmeg, and bay leaf. Stir to combine.
- Add the shellbows pasta and pour in 4½–5 cups of chicken or beef broth. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until the pasta is al dente, stirring occasionally.
- Once the pasta is cooked, remove the bay leaf and stir in the Athenos Whipped Feta until creamy.
- Sprinkle the crumbled Athenos feta over the top and drizzle with 1–2 teaspoons of olive oil.
- Garnish with finely chopped flat-leaf parsley before serving.
