  • 3 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 lb Ground Beef
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Powder classic or ancho
  • 1 tablespoon Ancho Chili Powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Smoked Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • 0.75 teaspoons Black Pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.125 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
  • 1.25 cups Beef Broth
  • 15 oz Dark Red Kidney Beans lightly rinsed and drained
  • 15 oz Black Beans lightly rinsed and drained
  • 14.5 oz Fire Roasted Tomatoes undrained
  • 7 oz Fire Roasted Green Chilis
  • 0.25 cup Tomato Paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 0 Sour Cream
  • 0 Cheddar Cheese shredded
  • 0 Corn Chips

Instructions

  1. Place chopped bacon in a large pot or Dutch oven and cook over medium heat until crisp and cooked through. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate and drain all but 1 ½ tablespoons of grease.
  2. Add onion and red bell pepper to the bacon grease and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic to the pot and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
  4. Add ground beef to the pot, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Once meat is partially browned, add brown sugar and all spices. Stir well.
  5. Add all remaining ingredients including beef broth, beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, green chilis, Worcestershire sauce, and the cooked bacon. Stir well.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Serve hot with preferred toppings such as sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and corn chips.
