Brown Butter Banana Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies

Cook time: 30 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups rolled oats
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup browned butter
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup mashed ripe banana
  • 2.5 tbsp yogurt
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups chocolate chips
  • 0 optional flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden and nutty, about 5–8 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: flour, oats, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Mix the wet ingredients: browned butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, mashed banana, yogurt, and vanilla extract.
  4. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Before the flour is fully incorporated, fold in the chocolate chips. Do not over mix.
  5. Cover and chill the dough for 30 minutes and up to 12 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop large cookie dough balls, about 3 tablespoons each, onto the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake the cookies for 12–14 minutes until the edges are golden and the centers look soft. Tap the pan to let any air out.
  9. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a baking rack.
  10. Sprinkle the cookies with flaky sea salt, if desired.
