Pan Seared Ahi Tuna

Cook time: 15 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sushi grade ahi tuna steaks about 1.5-2 in. thick
  • 3 TBSP soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 0.33 C sesame seeds
  • 1 TBSP brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 0 TBSP neutral oil
  • 0 green onion sliced
  • 0 smoked sea salt flaked

Instructions

  1. Combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil in a shallow dish and coat the ahi tuna steaks on all sides. Let them sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  2. Mix 1/3 cup of sesame seeds, 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, and 1 teaspoon of kosher salt on a plate. Coat the marinated ahi steaks by pressing them into the mixture.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once very hot, add some neutral oil and carefully place the ahi steaks into the pan. Sear them for 45-60 seconds on each side until they develop a nice crust.
  4. Remove the ahi steaks from the pan and slice them. Garnish with sliced green onion and smoked, flaked sea salt before serving.
