Loco Moco

A Hawaiian comfort dish consisting of jasmine rice topped with a juicy beef patty, umami-rich onion and mushroom gravy, a perfectly fried egg, and garnished with chives. Perfect for a cozy meal.

Loco Moco

Ingredients

  • 2 cups jasmine rice uncooked
  • 4 cups water for cooking rice
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 cup onion minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup onion sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 4 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons chives chopped

Instructions

  1. Cook the jasmine rice according to package instructions.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, minced onion, salt, and pepper. Mix to combine and shape into patties.
  3. Fry the patties in olive oil over medium-high heat until golden brown. Set them aside.
  4. In the same pan, add butter and sauté onions and mushrooms until soft. Stir in flour, then add beef broth to make the gravy. Let it simmer until thickened.
  5. Fry eggs to your liking in a second pan.
  6. Assemble the Loco Moco by placing the rice on plates, adding the patty on top, followed by the gravy and then the eggs. Garnish with chopped chives and serve.
