Apple and Cheddar Grilled Cheese
A quick, comforting grilled cheese with sharp cheddar and thin apple slices for a crisp-sweet contrast. A little Dijon sharpens the flavor and butter helps the bread brown evenly.

Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
- 120 g Apple Core and slice very thinly
- 170 g Sharp cheddar cheese Thinly sliced or grated
- 10 g Dijon mustard
- 1 g Fine salt
- 0.5 g Black pepper Freshly ground
- 4 slices Sliced bread Preferably sturdy sandwich bread
- 30 g Unsalted butter Softened
Instructions
- Thinly slice the apple and, if needed, briefly pat the slices dry. Grate or thinly slice the cheddar so it melts evenly. Apple is sliced and cheddar is ready for assembly.
- Spread Dijon mustard on 2 slices of bread. Divide the cheddar between those slices, then layer on the apple slices. Season lightly with the salt and black pepper, then close with the remaining 2 bread slices. Two sandwiches are assembled and ready to grill.
- Butter the outside of both sandwiches with the softened butter, using it evenly across the 4 outer bread faces. All outer bread surfaces are lightly coated with butter.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Cook the sandwiches for 3 to 4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula, until the bread is deep golden brown and the cheese is melted. If the bread browns too quickly, lower the heat and continue cooking a little longer. Sandwiches are crisp, evenly browned, and the cheese is fully melted.
- Rest for 1 minute, then slice and serve immediately. The filling holds together when cut and the sandwiches are hot throughout.
