Ingredients
- 10 g unsalted butter softened, for toasting
- 56 g cream cheese softened
- 10 g Dijon mustard
- 1 g fine salt
- 0.5 g black pepper freshly ground
- 4 slices whole grain bread for sandwiches
- 170 g sliced cooked turkey breast thinly sliced
- 60 g cranberry sauce whole berry or jellied
- 30 g baby spinach washed and dried
- 60 g apple very thinly sliced
Instructions
- If using butter for a toasted sandwich, heat a skillet over medium heat or preheat a toaster. If using the skillet, spread the softened butter on one side of each bread slice; this uses all 10 g of butter across the four slices, about 2.5 g per slice. The skillet is warm, or the bread is ready to toast evenly.
- In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese with the Dijon mustard if using, and season with the salt and black pepper if using. This makes a lightly tangy spread; use all of the cream cheese and all optional mustard if you choose it. The spread is smooth and evenly seasoned.
- Toast the bread slices in the toaster or in the skillet over medium heat until lightly golden and crisp at the edges, 2 to 4 minutes total. The bread is lightly browned and feels crisp outside but still flexible enough to assemble.
- Lay out 2 slices of toasted bread. Divide the cream cheese spread evenly over those 2 slices, then top with the sliced turkey, dividing the 170 g into 2 equal portions of 85 g each. Add the cranberry sauce on top of the turkey, dividing the 60 g into 2 portions of 30 g each. The turkey is evenly covered and the cranberry sauce is distributed without squeezing out excessively.
- Add the baby spinach to each sandwich, dividing the 30 g evenly, and add the apple slices if using, dividing the 60 g evenly. Close with the remaining bread slices, then press gently to compact the sandwich. The sandwiches hold together and the fillings are layered from spread to turkey to cranberry to greens.
- Cut each sandwich in half and serve immediately while the bread is warm and the fillings are cool and creamy. The cut sides show distinct layers and the bread is pleasantly crisp if toasted.
