Warm Spiced Pear Cider
A hot, nonalcoholic cider-style drink made by simmering pear cider with sliced pear, orange, ginger, and whole spices. It is strained before serving so the drink is smooth, aromatic, and easy to sip warm.

Cook time: 20 minutes

Ingredients
- 720 ml pear cider divided
- 1 medium ripe pear cored and thinly sliced
- 1 medium orange washed and thinly sliced
- 15 g fresh ginger peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 piece cinnamon stick
- 6 piece whole cloves
- 4 piece whole allspice berries
- 1 g fine salt
- 240 ml pear cider divided
- 30 ml maple syrup
Instructions
- Add 720 ml of the pear cider to the saucepan with the sliced pear, sliced orange, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cloves, allspice, and salt if using. The spices and fruit are submerged in the cider and the pan is ready to heat.
- Bring the mixture to a bare simmer over medium heat, then reduce to low and steep gently for 12 minutes; do not boil hard, or the spices can turn harsh. The cider is fragrant, lightly tinted, and the pear slices are soft at the edges.
- Stir in the remaining 240 ml pear cider and the maple syrup, then heat for 2 minutes just until steaming hot. The drink tastes balanced, warm, and aromatic without any raw alcohol or sharp spice bite.
- Strain through the fine-mesh strainer into the mugs, pressing gently on the fruit solids if desired for extra flavor, then serve immediately. Each mug is hot, clear, and ready to sip.
