Autumn Spiced Iced Tea

This is a chilled black tea infused with fall spices and orange zest, then sweetened lightly and served over ice. The flavor is tea-forward, with cinnamon and clove in the background and orange adding a clean citrus note.

Autumn Spiced Iced Tea

Cook time: 10 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 720 ml water for brewing the tea
  • 2 each cinnamon stick lightly crushed
  • 6 each whole cloves whole
  • 2 g orange zest removed from 1 orange
  • 4 each black tea bags standard bags
  • 30 ml honey or to taste
  • 1 g fine salt for balancing flavor
  • 240 ml cold water to dilute before serving
  • 400 g ice cubes for serving
  • 1 each orange cut into thin slices for serving

Instructions

  1. Bring 720 ml water to a simmer in a medium saucepan. Add 2 lightly crushed cinnamon sticks, 6 whole cloves, and 2 g orange zest. Remove from the heat, add 4 black tea bags, and steep for 5 minutes. The tea is dark, fragrant, and the spice aroma is noticeable but not harsh.
  2. Strain into a heatproof pitcher. Stir in 30 ml honey; if desired, add 1 g fine salt to round the flavor. The liquid is smooth and evenly sweetened, with no spice pieces remaining.
  3. Stir in 240 ml cold water, then chill briefly if needed, or pour immediately over ice in 4 glasses. Divide 400 g ice among the glasses and garnish each with orange slices. The drink is cold, lightly diluted, and clear enough to see the ice and orange garnish.
